The short version
anoli stores what you save so it can sort it, show it back to you, and show it to the people you choose to share a folder with. We do not sell your data, show adverts, or track you across other apps and websites. You can export everything or delete your account from Settings in the app at any time.
Who we are
anoli is run by Sift App Limited, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 16962848). We are the controller of the personal data described here. For anything about your data, write to hello@anoli-link.com.
What we collect
- An anonymous account. anoli does not ask for your name, email or phone number. The app creates a random account identifier the first time you open it and keeps it in your iPhone’s keychain. We also record the app version and when the app last synced.
- What you save. The links, text and notes you share into anoli, the folders, tags, reminders and notes you add, and whether you marked something done.
- Public details about links. The title, caption, author and thumbnail that the website you saved from makes public.
- Transcripts. If you attach a video, anoli can turn what is said in it into text. That happens on your iPhone; the video stays on your phone and only the text is stored with the save.
- Photos. Photos and files you add stay on your phone. There are three exceptions, each uploaded as a small copy: a photo you put in a folder shared with someone else, so they can see it; a photo you choose as a folder cover; and a profile photo, if you set one. anoli also creates short labels describing a photo (such as “food”) on your iPhone to help sort it.
- Your profile in shared folders. The name, emoji, colour and photo you choose are shown to people you share folders with. All of them are optional.
- Comments and reactions you leave in shared folders.
- Notifications. If you allow notifications, we store your phone’s notification token and language so we can tell you when someone adds to a folder you share, and which folders you have muted.
- Your subscription. Whether you have anoli Pro and when it ends. Apple takes the payment; we never see your card or Apple ID details.
- Support messages. If you write to us, your email address and what you wrote.
- Technical logs. Our hosting provider briefly keeps standard server logs, which include IP addresses, to keep the service secure and working.
- Your location, only if you turn it on. “When you arrive somewhere” is off until you switch it on. It uses your iPhone’s location on the phone itself to notice when you reach a place where you saved things. Your location is never sent to us or to anyone else.
- Opening hours of saved places. To show whether a saved place is open, the app asks OpenStreetMap (overpass-api.de) for the opening hours at that place’s coordinates. It sends only the saved place’s position, never yours.
- Guides. If you make a guide from a folder, anyone with its link can see the titles, pictures, places, links and your own notes in it, until you turn the guide off. It never shows other people’s notes or your private files.
- Crash reports. If the app crashes, freezes or hits an error, it sends us a short technical report so we can fix the problem: what went wrong, where in the app, and the app and iOS versions. It never includes your saves, notes or anything else you wrote.
The browser extension
The anoli extension for Chrome only sends something when you press Save: the address and title of that page or picture. It does not read or send your browsing history, and the Save button it shows on pages runs entirely in your browser.
How we use it, and why we are allowed to
- To run the service you asked for: saving, syncing, sorting, search, summaries, shared folders and reminders. This is needed to provide anoli to you under our terms.
- To keep anoli secure, prevent abuse and fix problems. This is in our legitimate interest in running a reliable service.
- To send push notifications, only if you allow them. You can switch them off in the app or in iPhone Settings at any time.
AI
When anoli is not sure which folder a save belongs in, or when you tap Summarise, the text of that save (title, caption, description and transcript) is sent to an AI model to decide or to write the summary. We use xAI (Grok) for this. xAI processes the text only to answer our request and does not use it to train its models. Photos are never sent to it.
Who else handles your data
We use a small number of providers who process data only on our instructions:
- Amazon Web Services, which hosts our database in London, United Kingdom.
- Vercel, which runs our servers and this website.
- Cloudflare, which runs our domain and forwards emails sent to us.
- Apple, which handles subscriptions and delivers notifications.
- xAI, as described above.
- OpenStreetMap, as described above, for opening hours of saved places.
People you share a folder with see the saves, comments and reactions in that folder and your chosen profile. Anyone you send a folder’s link to can view that folder on the web until you stop sharing it. Nobody else sees your saves.
Some of these providers are based in the United States. Where data leaves the UK or EU, it is protected by the safeguards the law requires, such as the UK International Data Transfer Addendum and the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.
How long we keep it
We keep your saves for as long as you have an account. When you delete your account in Settings, your saves, folders, comments and profile are removed from our database straight away, and backup copies are overwritten within 35 days. Support messages are kept for up to two years. Server logs are kept for a short time and then deleted automatically. A crash report is deleted once that problem has not happened for 90 days.
Your rights
You can ask for a copy of your data, ask us to correct or delete it, object to how we use it, or ask us to limit it. Most of this you can do yourself in the app: Export everything gives you all your saves, and Delete account removes them. For anything else, write to hello@anoli-link.com and include your account id from the bottom of Settings. If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk, or to the data protection authority where you live.
Security
Everything travels between the app and our servers over an encrypted connection. Our database accepts no passwords at all; only our own servers can reach it, using short lived credentials.
Children
anoli is not meant for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you think a child has used anoli, write to us and we will delete the account.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters, the app will tell you before the change takes effect.
